About the name

The Name: Sparrow & Root

When deciding on a name for my business it had to have a deeper meaning than simply a name that sounded good. So began Sparrow & Root.

Sparrow: one of my favorite verses is Mathew 6: 25-34 that addresses worry. From a young age I would tend to look too far ahead and had a hard time when things were out of my control. This verse kept me grounded and reminded me not to worry. Sparrow is a reminder of this verse.

We live in a fast-paced world with unending stressors, tribulations, and temptations. This makes it easy to be overcome with anxiety and worry. Many of us are constantly on the go and over book our schedules. Some of us tend to think too far ahead or try to plan everything out which can become overwhelming. Not to mention the unending number of times when we think we have our lives planned just to have something happen causing our plans to be flipped upside down and not even remotely close to what our original plan was. This can be upsetting, disappointing, and hurtful. Despite this God has a plan for our lives, to give us a future and turn all those mistakes, unfinished plans, heartaches, and disappointments into something good. For all of these circumstances God can give us peace and help us not to worry.

Mathew 6:25-34 tells Christians not to spend time worrying about their lives, especially the minor details. (Definitely much easier said than done). It is okay to plan, but at some point it is time to give up our control and give it back to who it belongs to, God! It gives us an opportunity to understand that we can slow down and find peace no matter what our circumstances are. This peace is found in God. Not our circumstance, not our possessions, and not another human being. And who couldn't use a little more peace in their lives and in their minds? I know I sure can. God provides for even the sparrow, so He will provide for us.

I hope to live my life with the sparrow in mind. Going through life with a purpose and plan but doing so with peace in my soul, knowing that God will provide and is my “rock.” I want to give control to God and release my problems to Him. How freeing it would be to “flutter” through life like the sparrow by doing these things. I challenge each of you to study this verse or read it for the first time if you have not before. Find true peace and freedom in God’s word.

.

Root: Root has multiple meanings. Growing up in the country I am finally getting back to my “roots.” My family has a heritage of farming, gardening, and hunting and I have found that this brings me joy. A simpler way of living. At the root of my soul is God’s creation: nature, the outdoors, and nurturing. I have a passion for raising animals, farming, and practices that heal the land. I long to “Heal the land and heal souls.” I am rooted in God and His word which allows me to withstand the trials of life and continue to find peace and happiness Jeremiah 17:7-8. In regards to the products; Sparrow & Root uses natural ingredients hence the word “root” and believes that there are many beneficial herbs and plants that God created to be used for humans.

Verses

Mathew 6:25-34

Do Not Worry

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Job 12:7-9

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.

Mark 4: 13-20

The Sower and the Seed

And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
